What is BCRS in Singapore?

The Beverage Container Return Scheme (BCRS) is Singapore’s national deposit scheme for drink containers, run by BCRS Ltd and licensed by the National Environment Agency (NEA). Customers pay a refundable 10-cent deposit on each eligible drink and get it back when they return the empty container at a Return Right machine.

When does the BCRS deposit apply?

BCRS began on 1 April 2026. From 1 October 2026, every regulated drink sold in Singapore must carry the BCRS Deposit Mark and the 10-cent deposit.

Which drinks carry the BCRS deposit?

The deposit applies to pre-packaged drinks in plastic bottles and metal cans from 150ml to 3 litres. Beverage cartons, glass bottles, pouches and freshly prepared drinks such as brewed coffee or bubble tea are not part of the scheme.

Is Qashier ready for BCRS?

Yes. BCRS is available for Qashier Singapore accounts across QashierHQ, the Qashier POS and QashierEats.

Do I need to change my product prices for BCRS?

No. Once a drink is marked BCRS Eligible, Qashier adds the 10-cent deposit at checkout and your product price stays the same.

Is the BCRS deposit subject to GST?

No. The 10-cent deposit is not subject to GST, while the drink price remains subject to GST for GST-registered businesses. Qashier shows the deposit on its own line, labelled as not subject to GST. See the IRAS GST and BCRS Deposit page for full details.
