The details of Shop Dee Mee Kuen and the 2023 tax deduction
The start of another year brings the planning for it — business, money and life — along with something unavoidable: the annual personal tax return. This year (tax year 2023), the Shop Dee Mee Kuen measure for 2023 lets you take what you spent on goods, services and fuel between 1 January and 15 February 2023 and deduct it from your 2023 tax, filed between January and March 2024. The details are as follows.
– Spending on goods or services of up to 30,000 THB, for which you must hold a full tax invoice on paper, or a full tax invoice issued electronically through the Revenue Department's e-Tax Invoice & e-Receipt system. A POS terminal from Qashier meets the criteria and can be used for the deduction.
– Plus spending on goods or services of up to 10,000 THB, for which you must hold a full tax invoice issued electronically through the Revenue Department's e-Tax Invoice & e-Receipt system only.
Shop Dee Mee Kuen 2023 applies to buying goods or using services from shops that can issue a VAT invoice. Before you buy, ask the shop whether it can issue a full tax invoice: some are not registered for VAT and their receipts cannot be used for the deduction. And here is what you must not forget
1. The window runs from 1 January to 15 February 2023
2. Shops that can issue a full tax invoice usually issue the tax invoice on the day itself and will not backdate it
3. Once you have the full tax invoice, check that your name, surname and national ID number are correct, because a misspelling may make it unusable — costing you money and time both.
4. Ten categories are excluded, namely:
- alcohol
- tobacco
- cars
- newspapers and magazines
- tour packages paid to a tour operator
- hotel accommodation
- utilities
- mobile signal services
- internet services
- non-life insurance premiums
