It has to be said that scanning to pay is how customers prefer to settle up these days. Very few shops still take cash only, and that is because for the customer scanning is easy and convenient: no cash to carry, no coins to keep, and no fear of being given the wrong change.
For a lot of businesses, though, moving from ordinary payments to scan-to-pay can be both a relief and a nuisance. The relief is that checking sales is straightforward, because every transaction leaves a record. Even so, plenty of shops run into trouble with customers scanning to pay: transfers for the wrong amount, payments that are pressed but never arrive, and outright fraudsters — plus the things that irritate the customer, such as a QR code that will not scan because the paper has faded, glare on the sign, or not being able to find the QR sign at all. Today we will show you how to solve all of that with Dynamic QR scan-to-pay on the Qashier POS terminal.
First, what exactly is a Dynamic QR code?
Dynamic QR is one type of QR code — those little squares forever asking us to lift our phone and scan to pay. Think of scanning a QR code on a flyer to visit the website for a new product, or scanning a PromptPay QR code to transfer money into a friend's account.
From those examples you can see that the QR code we scan was created in advance, then printed out or screenshotted to be used.
A QR code of that sort is properly called a Static QR code: once it has been created, it can be used for ever.
Take the QR code on a flyer — however long ago it was printed, it will still work when you scan it. Or take the PromptPay QR code a friend sends you to transfer money: even if we forget to pay for two or three days, we can still use that same code to send the money.
Ordinary QR codes (Static QR) you see all the time
- QR codes on a brochure
- QR codes stuck on products
- The QR code for receiving money in a banking app (which stays the same code however many times you open it)
A Dynamic QR code is a different animal: a QR code that can do more, carrying specific values within it. It can only be scanned once — to scan again you have to generate a new one — and it is both more sophisticated and more secure.
Dynamic QR codes you see all the time
- The QR code that appears on a till for you to scan, with the amount filled in automatically
- Login QR codes (scanned to sign in to a website or an app)
- Some kinds of food-ordering QR codes

A Dynamic QR code can be used only once, and is generated afresh each time the system asks for one.
How an ordinary QR code differs from a Dynamic QR code
The clearest comparison of all is scanning to pay.
With an ordinary QR code:
once the customer has scanned it, they have to enter the amount themselves, and you have to check your own account to see whether the right amount has come in.
It is rather like a delivery van that only collects the goods from the customer (the amount) and drives them over to us. We are the ones who have to check at our end whether what arrived is correct.
With a Dynamic QR code:
the shop can set the amount it wants the customer to transfer, and once the customer scans the code in their payment app they do not have to enter anything, because the app brings up the amount to be paid automatically. Better still, the details of the transfer can be sent back to confirm the amount the customer has sent.
It is rather like a delivery van that checks the goods from the customer (the amount) for us and runs them to a hub, where they are verified as correct before being brought safely on to us.

So how does a Dynamic QR code solve a shop's headaches?
When a shop uses Dynamic QR Payment, taking money becomes far more reliable. There is no need to worry about a customer transferring the wrong amount, or going through the motions of scanning without actually paying — because with a Dynamic QR code, the moment the customer scans with their banking app the amount due appears automatically and cannot be edited. When they confirm the transfer, the receiving system checks the amount, and if it is correct the POS terminal prints the receipt straight away.
Shops on Qashier POS can use both Static QR and Dynamic QR codes, and you are welcome to ask our specialists directly about how it works.
