Most commonly practised in Southeast Asia, a typical Yee Sang consist of sashimi, strips of vegetable like cucumber and carrot, pickled ginger, pomelo pulps, peanuts, pillow crackers, vegetable oil, five spice powder, and plum sauce – ingredients are put toget<\/span>her in a specific order that holds significance.<\/span><\/p>\n

This is no exception to Restoran Foong Yet (\u98ce\u6708\u6d77\u9c9c\u996d\u5e97), a Chinese restaurant located in Kepong, a humble town in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. Each year during the Chinese New Year season, they would set their expert hands to prepare the best Yee Sang for their loyal customers.<\/span><\/p>\n

The history of the family-owned business spans 70 years. Their first establishment was actually a tea house selling Chinese steamed buns and dim sum that were popular with trishaw riders who frequented the restaurant. The business changed and adapted over the years, becoming Restoran Hong Ngek<\/a>, currently owned by Liew Hing Ling, a traditional Hokkien restaurant located in Jalan Tun HS Lee. Its signature dish, is an authentic fried rice cake, with roots in Fujian Xingh<\/span>ua-style dishes from northern China.<\/span><\/p>\n

In 2005, the business saw growth with Restoran Foong Yet established as a second branch located in Kepong, specialising in seafood dishes.\u00a0Today, Restoran Foong Yet is run by Poh Lum and his wife, Lee Li Keng and they have not looked back since. The husband and wife duo have been running the restaurant since 2010 and have continued to capture the hearts of KLites with their range of delicious seafood dishes.<\/p>\n
